Thoughts on MMORPGs

Just a random moment where I was thinking about MMORPGs. In my time I've played a lot of MMORPGs and have experience with a wide range of both MMOs and also RPGs separately. I've had fun times, but every time there just feels like there's something else I want out of them. I keep experiencing this more and more where I try new things, get used to them, and find things that I feel like could be better, finding myself wanting more out of everything, wanting better quality or more intriguing complexities or depths. This goes for everything in general, but for MMOs I feel like there's a few things I wanna see at some point.

1) Professions that feel like they matter which can hold their own as a strong foundation to the mechanics.

2) Diverging from class based systems to give better customizability and flexibility to build creation.

3) Baseline foundations for mechanical gameplay depth to play off of.

4) Baseline gameplay that has more engagement than the typical "Click on thing and then click your abilities and it will automatically target and cast."

I feel like the first two are mostly self explanatory; however, for the third one, I wanna see these gameplay foundations that have interesting affect on how you play the game. Like a companion focused base where it plays like an RTS game with your stationary companions acting like buildings and mobile companions acting like units. A ranged attack focused system for spells and physical ranged weapons that play like first or third person shooters that you can just aim and shoot with but that rewards you for hitting weak spots on enemies. A melee focused system that lets you use what ever you get your hands on to fight and brawl to your hearts content that plays more like a souls-like game.

As for the fourth thing, you get a sense for it in the explanation of the third point; however, branching out from how you play the game would be wonderful for making games more interesting and have more depth. Now, I know that this would be a tall ask for an MMORPG, heck, it's a miracle MMORPGs can even make it out of development, but I will always look to the future and see these things that we could do more on. A theoretical way of accomplishing something like this would be building up each foundational of gameplay separately, starting with a game that is an RPG with a lot of focus on professions and the world to build up the world design and profession systems. An RTS game where you are a physical character that you have to manage and protect while fighting with your companions. A souls-like game to work on making clean movement and combat systems. Finally, a game focusing around weaving magic and ranged weapons together in a seamless way that encouraging aiming and precision during boss battles. Then from those games you would have to combine them together, which will be easier if you work them from the ground up to build off each other, and then multiplayer which is a beast in of itself. The creation of the MMO at that point would be taking these individual games, combining them, then mass crowd multiplayer handling which in of itself would likely be the hardest part.

I should say, as a game dev, I know this is not an easy task. I am not calling anyone else out to do this and I couldn't see myself doing this... at least not with out practice. If anyone ever finds this and wants to use this production timeline to try and make their own MMORPG, I HIGHLY encourage it. As for me, well, I always have big visions like this, as you all will know from my prior posts. I hope someday I can play an MMORPG that really hits just right for me, but it is unlikely to ever really happen, and even then perfection is unobtainable; HOWEVER! with that I will say that we always have higher goals we can hit, we always have further we can reach, and I hope I can someday make you all proud.

Canine Compendium Opened

 Yo!

I ended up opening a new blog to start slapping story stuff into, I also added anotherrrr author to the blog so we can both post to it. Hopefully it can help me get some more creative flow.

Follow up on last post

Actually, thinking on it, I use this as a news blog so probably would make a separate blog for that. Also would make sure it's set as adult. Probably should set this site as adult at some point.

yeh

hmmmm...

 Hmmm...

What if I just started posting short story writing stuff here?

Like, I got a lot of lil short story romance things I wanna write, maybe I can just slap it here..

Like, I don't post much here, I probably should post more, and I have a lot of lil random stories floating around in my noggin just from general day to day stuff.

And I wanna draw short web comics for the stories but also been dealing with Mental Degradation Wrought Inability to just fuckin do anything I enjoy doing so maybe just bashing them out and dropping them here would be the way to go.

And if you happen upon this
Henlo

I didn't expect you to be here

Quite honestly surprised

My younger self was cringe so fair warning if you look at older posts. lol

hm.

Howl it Doooooooooo

Another echo out to the net.

Been really busy on my end.

Hope you all been well

Been working on SOTDT

Quad Numeris

A lot of Art (See art blog for a massive art pile)

A lot of my back burner projects are cold right now just cause I have been trying to work my way up to them more to make sure they turn out better, along with generally just trying to get a few other things done as well as just general life slow downs.

But yeah

Despite the silence, things are still in the works.

The Clockwork Mechanism is Ticking

The River is Flowing

The Sands of Timer Eternal

But I hope you all are good out there.

Stay safe, The world is a Scary place, right now.

I love you all, You can do it.

To whom it may concern,

Theoretical instrument to Measure Time Dilation over Gravitation Force

 G'day,

I am here to chronical an idea I had for a theoretical instrument to measure what would basically be the effect of gravity on perceived time. This device could be theoretically used to measure to see if the dilation of time from the effect of gravity is noticeable in electronics as well as giving a way to measure the dilation.

The basic idea of the instrument is a long space-proofed cable containing a Optical Cable, Two wires for Data Signals, and Two wires for Power. This cable will be covered in layers of various materials to protect against cosmic background radiation as well as the environments of planets it is used to measure the Gravitation Time Dilation of. At either end of this instrument will be a small electronic enclosure that will serve to take in an incoming signal from each line, record how long it's been since the last signal, and then send that signal back along with the data it has collected. One end will have it's electronics able to be hooked into an array with other cells like it, each sending their data into the satellite the instrument is connected to.

The instrument will be calibrated in the depth of space away from the gravitational pull of most celestial bodies, essentially just signaling back and forth along the probes to zero out for the effects of it's own gravitational pull along with the travel delay of the data transmission through the wires, doing this multiple times and averaging it out over time to have an averaged zero, allowing it to measure external effects on the data transmission.

The probe array will return data to the main computer responsible for collect, calculating, and displaying the data. Each probe cell has four variables for each measure, a variable for the optical cable and a variable for the wire signal for each end of the probe. this 2x2 cell will then have the data averaged out over the types of wires giving the probe end average and then the data will have the further probe divided over the closer probe to get a rough dilation percentage experienced for the cell, which could be layed out as "((P1C1+P1C2)/2)/((P2C1+P2C2)/2) = D" (Apologies for the terrible formatting of that.) The data further can have the average time dilation per row or column of probe cells in the array and then an over all time dilation average measured out across the entire array, potentially also having the dilation divided further by the length of the probe cells used to gauge the gradient of dilation over the factor of gravity.

Finally, to operate the Time Dilation Measurement Device the Satellite would need to get into orbit of a celestial body, allowing the probe array to dip down into the gravitational pull of the celestial body before running a series of pings within the probe array to get an averaged out measurement over time.

I do not know how effective this would be at measuring this theoretical variable, but I hope someone out there may see this and be inspired in one way or another.

Thank you for your time,
W <3 L F

P.S. Sorry for being MIA, and Happy New Years.

Update - 3/30/2024

 Heya Mates!

The Wolf Studios here and I wanted to write out a more fleshed out update after that last quick blip. It's been a while since I posted here, but I've been a bit busy with some stuff behind the scenes here. No crazy progress been made, buuuuut some fun news!

Our Hero!
< Available Now on Itch.io >

My first full release, Our Hero! is a lil side scrolling game inspired by the Chrome No Connection Dinosaur Game where you play Sargent Ratthew, a military intelligence messenger rat, whose goal is to deliver the intel as far into the front lines as you can. The game is a super simple I threw together with some art doodle for assets and by all means is very unpolished; However, I am quite proud to say that I have made a full game and released it in some kind.

Our Hero! was my way of learning how to use the Godot engine and is a culmination of the basics I learned about that engine over a small period of time, being made in roughly three days of work.

Secrets of the Dax'thuu

Unfortunately here I haven't yet made any more major progress on Secrets of the Dax'thuu, but I have still been slowly detailing and... admittedly adding more content that I will have to go through for it. It's been a hot minute since I last talked about it sooo if you are new Secrets of the Dax'thuu is a D&D Expansion Setting I have been working on that I wanted to make publicly available at some point. The more I work on it, the more I realize this setting is very geared towards my style of DMing and it may not really be super popular amongst many; However, there's a lot of content and fun ideas in it that I hope will be enjoyed when it finally releases!

Project: Ex Deo

Thisss one is a bit rough, but since I got into learning Godot this hasn't been touched, like, at all... HOWEVER, Lost, but not forgotten. Project: Ex Deo has been moved to the back burner till I am more familiar with the Godot engine.

5k Pageviews!

I am excited to say that the counter has broken 5k page views! this is thrilling to see and brings me great joy and I thank all of you for enjoying witnessing my various works, rambles, and etc.

Project 4

ooooOOOOoooo~ Mysterious project with only the number four to give you a clue on what it could meaaan!~ In all seriousness, Project 4 is kinda hype for me cause I came up with the entire idea and conceptualized a lot of it in a single sleepless night and it has been coming to me pretty easily and will likely just will itself into existence when I sit down and focus up on working on it. The hint I will give is it's related to TTRPGs and SOTDT

Wolf Jam 2024

I kinda almost forgot about reminders for Wolf Jam, not gunna lie; However, Wolf Jam 2024's submissions close in three days, after the submissions close I have some reviewers to help me go through this year's submissions if there are any. Afterwards I will give the theme for next year's Wolf Jam.

Other & Etc

It has been a bit of a quiet one for me, but I've been doing well, been busy though. I've been working on getting things done in my personal life so I can work on stuff with more security in my well being and etc, which unfortunately being... mortal... means I have to deal with that. However! No worries that it'll get in my way! Or the way of any crewww I might bring on cause, well, The Wolf Studios beyond just being my online self will also ideally blossom into an actual game studio someday... But for now, just me and my meme posts on Youtube and an abnormal number of projects being worked on at once.

Some other general news for recent times:
One of my [ Recent Videos ] has taken off and has peaked the records on my Youtube channel.
I have been banging my head against a wall to learn how to do from-scratch Voxel systems and also Twitch integrations in Godot. (Pls help me.)
I might be dusting off my FA soon to start posting on there again since it's been tooo long

annnnnd that's all I can think of.
Stay Safe, Maties.
